Member Voting For 2025 Committee
The Club is fortunate enough to have 15 members offering to join the 2025 Club Committee. The 15 include members on the current Committee, all eight of whom are standing again. However current Club rules restrict the Committee to just 10 members (plus 3 Trustees, President and Vice-President - supported by the Treasurer and Secretary). The vote is for the 10 to be the 2025 Committee members.
The voting is taking place, during Club opening hours, in-person at the bar and between Tuesday 25th (6:30pm) and Sunday 30th (2pm).
EXACT VOTING TIMES WILL FOLLOW SHORTLY
When given a voting slip, with all 15 names listed, please tick/select up to 10 names.
IMPORTANT: If you select more than 10 names OR do not tap your working door card OR enter more than one voting slip - your vote(s) will be invalidated and ignored.
On Sunday 30th the three independent scrutineers will count the votes in private, and the results will remain private until the AGM on Monday 31st. The AGM is open to all FULL members (not those currently doing their 26 sign-ins). Doors will open on Monday at 7pm, and the Club's 2025 AGM will start at 8pm.

Below are the 15 committee nominees, who were invited to share up to 200 words as a background for all members. The same write-ups will be available on clipboards at the bar.
01. Jackie Cook
"My name is Jackie Cook and I have been a member of the Club since 2009. I work as an administrator at a local pre-school and in my job, I am meeting and dealing with people from all different sectors, from parents to professionals.
I like socialising with friends, going to the theatre, reading, cooking and going on holidays. I have also in the past been social secretary of both British Gas and a local Cubs and Scouts group, so I am aware of the workings of a committee.
I would like to bring in new ideas, and to be an active member, and to build good relationships with the Club members. I like meeting people and what better place to do that than at Boxmoor Social Club. Since last year I have put together and run three successful quiz nights.
Committees have different personalities and skill sets, and hopefully will all work together to bring new ideas to the table for the good of the Club and its members."

I've applied to go on committee I've been on committee twice before now I've had break I feel I can help the Club & members to keep Club ship shape & happy atmosphere.

03. Andy Dickinson

"Being a local resident and a member of the Club for over 17 years, I have watched it struggle to fill the committee at times, with the trend being bucked this year. Initially I joined the committee when invited and no one wanted to, having served on various committee's, including Boxmoor Cricket Club.
With the time available to commit to the role, I brought my skill set and knowledge to the existing pool, where I have performed the role for 2 years now. Learning it's tasks, being a voice of reason in formulating the rebuilding plan, while enjoying the challenge of comparing nights (not being a performer), and assisting on the duty roster.
The last 2 years have been a challenge, though the current financial climate is still making things difficult. My aim if elected, is to try to keep a vibrant happy inclusive Club for the community. While maintaining it and ensuring that it is there for us all, but also for the generations to come.
I wish luck to all those prepared to stand, and help our Club remain the best Club in Hemel. "
04. Jess Glynn
"Hi, I’m Jess and I’ve been a member at the Club for 4 years.
I’m a people person who really enjoys engaging with everyone. I enjoy a bit of banter and I don’t take offence easily. We are a very inclusive Club and we hold lots of activities/events to cater for everyone.
I’m not opposed to change and believe we need to move with the times. We need to listen to what our members want and if practical action those ideas.
I’m away a lot of the time for work so I’m not always available to do duties etc. I am however completely committed to the success of the Club. "
05. Laura Griffin
"As a brief introduction for those who may not be familiar with me, I am employed by NHS Professionals. I have been a member of the Boxmoor Social Club for over five years, while my husband, Paul, has been a member for more than 22 years.
Why would I like to join your committee?
I do not possess any extraordinary skills other than I know the Club is the heart of what matters here whether you’re a member, on the committee or part of the staffing team we are all aiming for the same goal to make this the Club we all know and love.
Having previously served on the committee I devoted my time and energy to its success and would gladly do so again if given the opportunity. I have a deep appreciation for what our Club has provided to me and my family over the years, and I wish to give back in some way.
If you the members grant me the honour of representing you within the Club, I am fully committed to fulfilling my responsibilities to the best of my ability and collaborating with the committee you select to ensure our Club remains a place we all hold dear.

06. Paul Griffin

"Hello, my name is Paul Griffin, I’ve been a member of the Boxmoor Social Club for over 22 years. I have been on the committee for nearly 2 terms and along side this I am one of the 2 committee members required to sit on the Finance/Planning Committee. I also prepare the weekly social media updates ready for posting.
Prior to being on the committee, my wife and I ran the Club kitchen for approximately 3 years.
Outside of the Boxmoor Social Club I have been married to my wife Laura for 25 years, run my own business in access raised flooring installation and have two grown up boys aged 24 & 21 who are also members of the Club and who have both worked behind the bar at one point or another.
So the reason for this write up is to ask for you to vote for me to rejoin the committee again this year. I am, and have been 100% committed to carrying out my role whilst on the committee and plan to do so if re-voted back on. I joined the committee as a voice for the members, something I feel very strongly about, after all it’s the members Club and it will be something I intend to continue to do.

"Hi I’m Ricky and I’m 65!!! and yes I still work full time as a HGV driver.
If you don’t already know I have been married to Sarah for 19 years.
I have been a member of Boxmoor Social Club since 2008 and on the committee for 14 years and I still enjoy everything I do for the members.
If I am re-elected for another year I promise that I will still be as dedicated as I always have.
I will continue to help and support the Club and the members in anyway I can and show and tell any new committee members my knowledge of being a member of the committee. "
08. Laurence Hardwick

"Last year was my second stint on the committee, I spent a few years on it before the pandemic. My aim is to ensure that the Club thrives and stays in the black whilst also ensuring that we get the very best deals for the membership.
You have to have a strong commitment to the well being of the Club to serve on the committee which I believe I have.
There are various duties that committee members are expected to carry out and I am familiar with those duties and am usually available to step in should a fellow committee member not be available for their duty.
I will join in committee events such as the Murder Mystery evening and have assisted with the latest update to the Club furniture and redecoration.
The outgoing committee is very strong and work very well together. We may not always agree on subjects but we always come to a reasonable consensus.
I hope I can continue to serve the membership and continue the good work"
09. Vic Kemp
"My name is Vic, and I am applying for a position as a committee member at Boxmoor Social Club. I have been a dedicated member of the Club for over 10 years, and during this time, I have come to deeply appreciate the community and the events the Club arranges.
My partner, Joanne, has also been with the Club for 10 years and currently works as the Deputy Bar Manager. Through my long-standing involvement, I have gained a solid understanding of the Club’s operations. I regularly attend events and have volunteered on numerous occasions to assist with various tasks, including working the door when others were unavailable and helping with cleaning and maintenance when staffing shortages arose.
I am passionate about the Club, and I would love the opportunity to contribute to it in a more formal capacity. As a committee member, I would aim to be a fair and approachable spokesperson for the members, ensuring their voices are heard and considered in decision-making.

"Hi my name is Nicola and now heading into my 3rd year as a member.
I have been in retail for 26 years mainly in managerial positions, however in 2022 decided to step down to achieve a better work life balance. I am very much a peoples person, approachable and love working as a team.
Over the past 2 years attending the Club I have enjoyed making many new friends and being part of the numerous events making great memories.
I now believe it is time to dedicate and be more hands-on with the Club. What I can bring as a committee member is my customer service skills and ability to talk to members on any fresh ideas and their feedback. I would also like to deliver / support all members of the Club and continue the great reputation the Club has”

"I joined the committee 2 years ago and have thoroughly enjoyed every moment. I listen to what’s being discussed and vote when appropriate and help when needed
I help with Bingo, Play Your Cards Right, Raffles and also supporting the games night. I am always willing to help out in anyway if people can’t make there duty
I have made some good friends at the Club and on the Committee.

12. Graham Taylor

"I really value the Club; it provides a welcoming and friendly environment for its members, a good value bar, great facilities and fantastic entertainment. I have happily helped support the Club by serving on the committee for the last two years, where I have helped encourage maintaining all the things that the Club offers to its members, and which I greatly appreciate.
I live locally, I consider myself to be friendly, approachable, and genuinely helpful to others. I am actively involved in Scouting and the Canoe Club. I officially work in London, but since Covid have had a hybrid working arrangement. Not being required to travel to London every day has given me the time to both support and appreciate what the Club provides.
In addition to the main committee, and doing my share of duties (whether bingo, or a Friday or Saturday night), I have also been on the finance committee, and have provided my skills and finance knowledge to help provide information to the rest of the committee to help them make informed decisions for the benefit of the Club’s members.
I have felt appreciated and valued by the Club and its membership whilst serving, and I’m more than happy to continue to contribute by remaining on the committee."
13. Maureen Sear
"Hi, I am Maureen Sear. Here is an outline of my experience and knowledge of Club life, and to explain the reasons I would like to be considered for this year's new Committee.
I have been attending Boxmoor Social Club for over 40 years. During this time I have served on the committee for approx 7/8 years. I have also been a member of bar staff.
I have a passion for this Club as it has always been a happy safe environment to attend and to bring my children to and later grandchildren. A great safe family Club.
With many years of experience I would like to take this opportunity to facilitate and communicate a close working relationship between the committee and Club members. As I am well aware that the committee is there for the smooth running of the Club and representing you the members.
I fully understand the commitment involved with being a committee member and the need to follow the Club rules. I am keen to get involved and to assist organising activities to encourage more members to visit the Club. eg to carry out normal Club duties plus and maybe suggest reintroducing family fun days & other family activities.
Finally, I would like you to please consider me when placing your vote as I have a wealth of experience regarding Club life. "
14. Mike Webster

"I am Mike Webster; I am now entering my 3rd year as a member of BSC and if re-elected look forward to serving a second year on the Clubs committee. I retired in 2020 having spent all my working life dealing with people from being in retail management for 20 years moving into sales for 30 years.
Away from my daily work I continued to be active in working with people and spent many years on my children’s school parent teachers association committees, running fetes, BBQ’s, fund raising, raffles and all the other things to help a school raise the extra money needed. I also managed my sons football team for 3 years and for the past 5 years I have been Father Christmas at 2 local schools.
I have enjoyed my first year on the committee doing the 2/3 monthly duties and attending the monthly meetings, some of you will be aware that I set up a monthly coffee/chat morning in January for those that are at home during the day.
I would like to continue to work on the committee for a second year.

"I joined Boxmoor Social Club as a member in 2013 (for the second time) and became part of the Committee again in 2019. I have served continuously for the past six years. Previously, at 21, I was honoured to be the first woman elected by ballot to the Committee.
I am passionate about my role and actively support the Club, averaging around 10 duties per month, assisting with bingo, Saturday evening entertainment, and "Play Your Cards Right." Additionally, I manage the financial aspects of the gaming machines and oversee the snooker machines.
I am responsible for Boxmoor Social Club’s Annual Competitions, coordinating with organisers to ensure smooth scheduling for members. I have also served as Chair and participated in the disciplinary board. Furthermore, I introduced twice-yearly psychic evenings, bringing valuable funds to the bar and building fund on quieter nights.
I regularly seek feedback from members and take their points to Committee meetings, ensuring their voices are heard and exploring possible improvements. I actively engage in discussions and debates on proposed changes to ensure they benefit the members.
Above all, I love engaging with people, making them feel welcome, and ensuring they enjoy their time at the Club. I would be honoured to continue contributing to the Committee and supporting the Club’s success."
